Patch And The Mystery Coughing in Cats

Lifestyles of the Furry & Fabulous 3 min read

There can be many reasons why your kitten is coughing a lot. If the rumbly purr turned into a cough, that means something is irritating their throat, airways, or lungs. Kristen reached out to us because of her fur baby, Patch, as he had a mysterious cough for the last two years.

Patch started taking Stimmune and Resp-Aid and we heard the best news:

My fur baby Patch had this mystery cough for about 2 yrs. It seemed to be allergy related. I found NHV on IG & reached out to them. They are sooooo helpful & recommended Stimmune and RespAid. Patch is soooo picky & refused to eat his food at first with these products in the food. NHV helped me figure out how to get him used to it. Fast forward a month later & these products are helping! Patch isn’t coughing AT ALL! His fur is so silky & he seems to have more energy! I am soooo grateful!

Stimmune: Your kitty will get immune-supporting herbs that help support them with food allergy reactions, as well as reactions related to fleas, dermatitis, insect bites, diet, and exposure to chemicals and drugs.
Resp-Aid: A holistic all-natural remedy for respiratory infection in cats to help provide them relief. Perfect for coughs, respiratory disorders, and bronchial infections.

So many kittens out there suffer from a mystery cough.

Like Patch, so many kittens out there suffer from a mystery cough. It’s important to take your cat to the veterinarian as soon as you notice the cough is not going away.

Possible Causes of Coughing in Cats

Allergies: The causes and symptoms are similar to those of asthma.
Fungal lung infection: Your kitty could pick up a fungus from the soil. Each part of the country has a different type, but coughing is a common symptom.
Heartworms: This disease is spread by mosquitos. If you live in an area with these bugs, your cat is more at risk. You can get preventative medicine from your vet. The symptoms resemble asthma.
Lung cancer: Some tumors can be controlled with medication along with. If not, surgery may be an option (chemotherapy).
Systemic diseases: Coughing can be a sign of pneumonia, which can be diagnosed with X-rays and may respond to antibiotics and other therapies. It may also be a sign of congestive heart failure, which can be diagnosed with an ultrasound or electrocardiogram.
Tight collars: Pressure on your cat’s windpipe can cause damage and lead to a cough.
Worms: These are common in felines. It’s one reason your pet gets regular blood and fecal tests at the vet.

How do I prevent my cat from coughing so much?

You can lessen the chances that your furkid will get the problems that lead to coughs. Here are some tips:

• Have them tested for internal parasites
• Don’t use perfumes, room fresheners, carpet deodorizers, hairspray, or aerosol cleaners that can irritate their lungs (respiratory tract)
• Look for cat litter that doesn’t create dust or have added scent
• Keep your kid active so their weight stays down
• Cut stress. Many cats get ill when their surroundings or routines change. Keep feeding routines, play, and cleaning schedules the same each day
• Run a humidifier when the air is dry, especially during cold winter months
• Don’t expose your furkid to cigarette smoke, especially if they have asthma
• Give them a heartworm prevention medication, especially if you live in an area with mosquitos
