‘What Should I Feed My New Puppy?’

The fundamentals of puppy love: Julie the Beagle

You have a lifetime of snuggles, adventures, and love to look forward to. Aside from all the excitement, one of the first things you’re probably wondering is: what should I feed my new puppy?

Bringing home a new puppy is so exciting! These rambunctious canines require patience, time, and supervision to help transition into their new home. A big part of caring for your new pup is paying special attention to diet and nutrition – finding the best food for puppies.

The diet requires a higher level of protein, fat, and other nutrients.

A growing puppy burns a lot of energy, so they have higher caloric requirements than adult dogs. The diet requires a higher level of protein, fat, and other nutrients. It is important in these cases that their food is complete, balanced, and… interesting. Could you imagine eating the same food every day for the rest of your life? Your four-legged friend will probably need some variety in his or her diet, especially the fresh, home-cooked kinds.

Beagles such as Julie are scent hounds and well known for having ravenous appetites – they will eat and eat until all the food is gone and then some. Of course, this is no good either as it can lead to common health issues such as obesity, arthritis, and heart disease. Good nutrition sets the foundation for proper growth, weight maintenance, energy, and good digestion for optimal mental and physical health.

Julie the Beagle is a healthy pup and her mom Tatiana is being proactive from the very start. Tatiana is very involved in Julie’s health regimen and understands that higher quality ingredients lead to overall better health for her growing pup.

Here’s some ‘meal prep’ that Julie’s mom Tatiana does for the week. (These fruits and veggies look so tasty, that we were tempted too!)

She got a customized nutrition plan by Dr. Amanda for Julie and loves to do fresh and home-cooked meals. This diet took into account that Julie is a healthy, growing dog. Proper support for bone growth and healthy organ maintenance is important to help keep her healthy and happy in her adult years. Once Julie is 10-11 months of age, her nutritional needs will change and the diet plan will be altered accordingly.

Small meals throughout the day are recommended for your growing pup. Small treats like carrots or apple chunks are a healthy and low-calorie option that most dogs love.

The whole family should be committed and onboard to a regular feeding routine to avoid fallouts. It can even be easily incorporated with the supplement regimen as well.

Some great additions to any meal plan are Multi Essentials, Petomega 3, and Natures Immuno. Together they help with energy, digestion, filling nutritional voids, maintaining healthy skin and coat, and overall immune support.

This Beagle is a growing girl, and we are looking forward to watching her grow over the years. Anyone who has raised a puppy knows how quickly time flies by. One moment they’re a teeny tiny little creature with legs and feet too long for the body, chewing the furniture, and eating everything in the sight. And then the next you are cherishing all the precious years of memories and wondering how your baby grew to be so big.

In loving memory of Cleo. ❤

This is Cleo. Earlier this year, Julie’s family lost their beautiful beagle, Cleo, to lung cancer. Julie and Cleo never had the chance to meet, but we can imagine they would have howled the roof off together. We were so happy that we were able to have had the chance to support her.

Henry James, and our new addition Fred, are fed home cooked meals based on Dr. Amanda’s meal plans created for Henry. All is going well but ai feel that I could save time by being more organized. I cook big batches at a time, but have not separated the food into individual portions yet. Would appreciate hearing what others are doing to make meal time quicker. Thank you

      Hi Bernadette,

We’re so glad Henry James and Fred are enjoying Dr. Amanda’s recipes! 😀 We find that the easiest way is to cook all of the ingredients together, then weigh out batches by meal. You can then store each meal in a separate freezer bag or container. The recipes give you amounts for 7 days, but you can easily double that amount and keep extras frozen for some time. We’d love to hear if anyone else has any great tips! 🙂 Send our best to Henry James and Fred!
