Natural Cushing’s Disease, Adrenal, and Addison’s Support for dogs
It’s hard to be a happy family when your pet is sick. Diseases of the adrenal glands, such as Cushing’s disease or Addison’s disease, can have a profound impact not only on your pet’s health but also on their personality, often leaving families desperate for a “miracle cure” that will bring back their happy, healthy animal. Though veterinary treatment is crucial in cases of chronic illness, great benefits can result from supplementing a traditional pharmaceutical treatment path with natural pet supplements. Today we’re going to be taking a look at NHV’s Supraglan™ and its effects on animals suffering from adrenal gland diseases.
Diseases of the adrenal glands are common in dogs, occurring when the adrenal glands produce too many or too few hormones.
Diseases of the adrenal glands are common in dogs, occurring when the adrenal glands produce too many or too few hormones. The imbalance of hormone production affects many basic body functions, including blood pressure, heart rate, and glucose levels. Pets will also experience effects on their personality and may become irritable, restless, or lethargic.
NHV’s Supraglan™ is an all-natural vet-formulated supplement designed to help dogs with adrenal gland diseases such as Cushing’s disease or Addison’s disease, which often include increased thirst, frequent urination, hair loss, and skin problems. Supraglan™ helps the body respond to stress and inflammation promotes healthy skin and coat and helps pets produce the hormones that control appetite.
Like all of NHV’s natural pet remedies, Supraglan™ is an all-natural vet-formulated supplement, made without the use of any additives or preservatives. Containing a proprietary mixture of natural ingredients including Borage, Astragalus, Bistort, Eleuthero, Wild Yam, Licorice, and Dandelion, Supraglan™ is a powerful natural supplement that provides pets with relief from their symptoms.
If your pet is suffering from adrenal gland-related diseases, Supraglan™ may be the key to their relief. Just one drop for every two pounds of body weight taken twice a day is the minimum dosage, although some pets may require an increased dosage due to their metabolism. One of the best ways to administer Supraglan™ is to sneak the dosage into a piece of your dog’s favorite food, although the dosage can also be given orally straight from the bottle.
The team at NHV has received countless stories from concerned pet owners thrilled with the results they’ve witnessed in their dogs after regularly supplementing them with Supraglan™. If you would like to learn more about Supraglan™ or would like to read some of our customer reviews, please visit the NHV website or contact us for more information.

What is the difference between adrenal disease, Addison's and Cushing's?
Addison's disease is also known as hypoadrenocorticism. This means that the adrenal system is underactive and does not produce enough natural corticosteroids for the body. Cushing's is also known as hyperadrenocoticism, so it is the opposite of Addison's, causing an overactive adrenal system which creates too much natural corticosteroid.
Where can I find additional help and resources?

Addison’s Disease, or hypoadrenocorticism, occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones. The adrenal glands are located just in front of the kidneys and have two parts – the cortex and the medulla.
The adrenal cortex produces mineralocorticoids (of which the most potent naturally occurring is aldosterone), which help to control the balance of sodium and potassium salts. Glucocorticoids, which are involved in metabolizing nutrients as well as in reducing inflammation and, also produces sex hormones such as estrogen and progesterone.
The adrenal medulla plays an important role in response to stress or low blood sugar (glucose). It releases epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine, which increase heart output, blood pressure, and blood glucose, and slow digestion.
Addison's Disease is a deficiency in secretion of hormones by the adrenal gland and usually mineralocorticoid and glucocorticoid hormones are both decreased.
Addison’s disease is more common in young to middle aged dogs and occasionally in horses. The disease may be familial in Standard Poodles, West Highland White Terriers, Great Danes, Bearded Collies, Portuguese Water Dogs and a variety of other breeds. The cause of the primary adrenocortical failure usually is unknown, although most cases probably result from an autoimmune process. Other causes include destruction of the adrenal gland by granulomatous disease, metastatic tumor, hemorrhage or infarction. It can also be caused by the medications used to treat overactive adrenal glands, or Cushing’s disease.
Clinical signs include intermittent vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, weight loss, and sometimes dark, bloody diarrhea. Lethargy, depression, and weakness are also common. Sometimes hair loss and increased thirst and urination occurs.
The diagnosis requires laboratory testing, because no clinical signs are specific for Addison’s disease.
Pets in an acute Addisonian crisis require hospitalization and intensive care. For most dogs with hypoadrenocorticism, lifelong supplementation with mineralocorticoids is needed.

Borage (Borago officinalis) - Borage has antibacterial, antihyperlipidemic, anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet effects and it is an herb that is know for its ability to support adrenal function. Borage contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid, that has effects on components of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone axis, balancing the secretion of aldosterone that is reduced in Addison`s disease.
Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) - Astragalus has properties that help to balance the immune system which can be compromised in pets with Addison`s disease. Bistort (Polygonum bistorta) Bistort is an astringent, soothing, anti-inflammatory herb that has tonic effect on the liver and kidneys. It also helps with gastrointestinal issues, like diarrhea which is one of the symptoms present in Addison`s disease.
Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus) - Eleuthero is a tonic with a modulating effect on major stress axis including pituitary glands, hypothalamus, and adrenal glands. It can increase resistance to infection that help to support the adrenal gland. In addition, it protects the immune system, and contains powerful antioxidants that help scavenge free radicals.
Wild Yam (Diocorea villosa) - Wild Yam is anti-inflammatory herb that contains steroidal saponins (dioscin, dogenin), which is used in the preparation of steroid hormones and helps normalize hormone production which is decreased in Addison` disease.
Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) - Licorice is beneficial for the adrenal gland, endocrine, digestive and respiratory system. The main phytochemical of licorice is glycyrrhizic acid helps stimulate the adrenal gland. Licorice also has an anti-inflammatory action like hydrocortisone and another corticosteroid hormones.
Dandelion - Dandelion has anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic, antioxidant, endocrine, gastrointestinal, hepatic and hypoglycemic effects. Dandelion is an anti-inflammatory and tonic herb that helps protect the kidneys which can be injured when the pet presents with Addison`s disease. It can also stimulate liver secretion and improve digestion.
MILK THISTLE
Silybum marianum - As renal failure frequently occurs in Addison’s disease, Milk Thistle can be very beneficial because of its renal protective effects. Several animal studies support the renal protective effects of silymarin against toxic agents. The liver protective properties of Milk Thistle can also be beneficial for pets who take pharmaceutical medications for the treatment of Addison’s disease.

Why is the Multi Essentials in this kit? What is the benefit of that?
Multi Essentials helps to support healthy energy levels and fill any nutritional voids.
My beagle has Cushing's. Will this treat the Cushing's?
This kit can help to support the body and balance adrenal function. It also helps to support energy levels and healthy liver function. It is not a cure for Cushing's disease.
What are some of the symptoms of Cushing's disease?
Some of the most common symptoms of Cushing's are excessive drinking and urinating, panting, thinning of the fur and bloating of the abdomen. If you notice any of these symptoms, see your veterinarian.
What is cortisol. How does it relate to Cushing's in pets?
Cortisol is a steroidal hormone created naturally by the body. In Cushing's disease the body produces too much Cortisol, either because of problems with the adrenal gland or because of a tumor on the pituitary gland at the base of the brain. Cushing's causes symptoms similar to side effects seen with over-use of pharmaceutical corticosteroids (increased thirst and urination, weight gain, panting).

If so, what is the dosage?
Appreciate urgent reply.
I am meeting vet tomorrow.
Hi Dee,
We’re so sorry to hear about your furkiddo. The supplements won’t replace the prescribed medication, but they can support your pet’s body while taking the medication and getting through this tough disease.
We also recommend Milk Thistle to support the liver and kidney and Yucca for pain and appetite balance.
Please let us know if you have any questions, we’re happy to help.
Yours in wellness,
NHV Team
