Teddy Fighting Cushing’s Disease With Support From NHV

Polyuria and polydipsia (PU/PD) are the medical terms for excessive urination and drinking. These are only symptoms but could also be a sign of a serious disease. Usually, pet owners notice accidents in the house. PU/PD is common in older pets as a symptom of age-related diseases. Kidney failure and diabetes mellitus as well as Cushing’s Disease in dogs. Liver diseases, cancer, and brain tumors are other diseases that may induce PU/PD. Below is a story about a rescue named Teddy:

Teddy is about 10 years old, his symptoms started late summer… at first, I thought it was the heart and I think I was also in denial so I didn’t take him to the vets right away… Teddy was suspected of having Cushing’s disease in the fall of 2017. The symptoms he was experiencing before we suspected Cushing’s disease were PUPD, extremely bloated belly, ravenous appetite, pacing/panting/anxiety hard to settle. His symptoms were so bad and I was getting ready to go away for vacation and leave him with the pet sitter so instead of weaning him onto them, I started him off right away on the ½ ml twice a day of both the Supraglan and Tripsy and added fresh-baked sweet potato in his food hoping to avoid loose stool starting him out so fast and it worked!

Teddy has been on NHV’s BK Detox/Stimmune/Milk Thistle Blend, Omega Fatty Acids, TCM for chronic skin issues since he came to us in Sept 2011.  I started using some homeopathy which also seemed to help a little with his Cushings symptoms but the herbs helped the most. Teddy’s PUPD is much more controlled, he has an occasional day here or there where it comes back but usually only lasts a day or so… he is still anxious/panting/pacing at times and hard to settle but he was a 10/10 before and now it is more like a 5/10; he is still ravenous and always food attentive but he’s always been that way since he came to us. I notice a difference right away when I started the herbs, his drinking and peeing decreased tremendously right away… it was a huge relief.

If you notice excessive drinking and urination in your pet, you will want to seek the help of your veterinarian. Your vet will run additional tests (blood test, urine test, x-rays, and more) in order to diagnose the problem. In Teddy’s case, his Momma decided to support her furry companion the natural way and has noticed a huge improvement. These are the NHV supplements sweet Teddy has been on to help support his system:

  • Supraglan works towards reducing urination, hunger and thirst. It also regulates water and electrolyte levels, produces hormones that help control appetite, and helps your pet’s body respond to stress and inflammation.
  • Milk Thistle helps to detoxify and regenerate the liver, also supports overworked kidneys.
  • BK Detox is an immune enhancer and helps detoxify the vital organs and the blood.
  • Stimmune supports the immune system and stimulates liver function. Allowing the body to start fighting any infections.

These herbs can all be mixed together and given at the same time.

These herbs can all be mixed together and given at the same time. They work synergistically, meaning that they enhance each other’s effects when used together. We are super happy this little man has found some relief from the herbs.

Update June 2019:

We received an email from Amy, Teddy’s mom with sad news. Sweet Teddy has crossed the rainbow bridge and he is now resting in pup paradise. Here’s a lovely message from his mom:

Good Morning NHV Family,

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love and care you have given my beloved pets over the years and to let you know that Teddy received his Angel wings this past Sunday.  We had the most beautiful and precious and heartbreaking last day at the beach for my most beautiful and precious boy before my beloved Teddy was given his wings so his sweetest Soul could finally fly untethered and free again.

There were innumerable gifts and Sacred moments from this day that will be etched in my Soul forever and I can only hope and pray that my last day on this earthly plane will be as blessed and as beautiful and as peaceful as Teddy’s was. I also want to reach out to the ethers and extend my heartfelt gratitude and love to the song Angel who played What a Wonderful World at Goddard Memorial State Park Beach yesterday… as Teddy lay quietly next to me and l listened to the words, the tears just gently flowed down my face… this song to me is now Teddy’s song because this is how he lived and loved in every single moment of his life up until his very last breath… it couldn’t have been a more beautiful and heartbreaking ending to the most beautiful and heartbreaking day… Fly free and rest in love my sweet little one.💔🙏✨🐾💞

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They’re really saying I love you
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world
