Missing Cat Found – Fredinho’s Surprising Homecoming

Fredinhos surprsing homecoming

When your pet goes missing, it can be one of the scariest things a family can go through. This happened to our very own Dr. Amanda when she was living with her daughter in Brazil. In a miraculous turn of events, their missing cat was found after three years.

Dr. Amanda’s Story About Her Cat, Fredinho

Cats have always had a special place in my heart. After my beloved cat Freddy passed away, my daughter Maria Rita asked me for an orange cat, like Freddy. Maria Rita was 3-years-old at the time, and saying no to her was next to impossible. Naturally, I gave in, so I told her that we would find an orange cat.

Our first stroke of luck was when one of my aunts who helps abandoned cats in Brazil had just rescued a female cat that had some beautiful kittens. We chose to adopt one of these kittens and Maria Rita named him Fredinho (“inho”, a suffix in Portuguese, which is a term of endearment).

Maria Rita and Fredinho had a remarkably close relationship. Every day Fredinho would follow Maria everywhere! When Maria Rita went to school in the morning, Fredinho would be at the door waiting to say goodbye. Our luck changed one day when one day Maria Rita returned from school and Fredinho was missing. Since Fredinho loved Maria Rita so much, we believed that he tried to follow her to school that day and had forgotten how to get home.

We were absolutely devastated. We did everything we could to find him. We put signs all around the neighborhood, we posted on Facebook and Instagram, and we searched day and night for any sign of our sweet Fredinho. We did this for weeks, however, I eventually had to let my Maria Rita know that her kitten was probably never coming home.

In the back of my mind, I still had hope that he would return someday, but as more and more time passed and still we didn’t hear any news about Fredinho, I resolved myself to the fact that Fredinho was not going to be returning. His disappearance would remain a complete mystery.

Missing Cat Found! Frendinho’s Surprising Homecoming

Three years later, something amazing happened. One typically hot morning, a young orange cat came up to our front door house and wouldn’t leave. When Maria saw him, she took one look at him and knew it immediately.

It is my Fredinho!

I must admit I was skeptical at first. It had been a long time since we lost him, and we had no idea what happened to him. He could’ve been kidnapped, he could’ve been hurt, but I could just not believe that this orange cat could be Fredinho. I had seen many stories about cats returning home after many years, however, we were unsure and brought Fredinho inside.

We checked the ID tattoo in his left ear and it confirmed that this cat was in fact, Fredinho. I couldn’t get over my shock. Not only my shock that Fredinho was alive and well after three years who knows where, but that my Maria Rita was able to sense him right away. Fredinho had never forgotten Maria and had found his way back to her. Their bond, even after three years was immovable.

I am happy to report that Frendinho is back at our home with Maria and is incredibly happy and healthy. Maria Rita is so happy that her furry friend is back in her life!
