NHV Cushing’s Disease Essential Kit Helps Mitzie, the Sheltie, Cope Better

We are happy to receive great news from Dianne, Mitzie’s mom. Mitzie, a 10-year-old Sheltie was struggling with Cushing’s disease for some time now but the last month has been better. Cushing’s supplement kit from NHV has been able to help her cope more comfortably.

Thank you, Dianne, for these lovely words.

My 10-year-old Sheltie has been on Supraglan and Milk Thistle for a month now to treat recently diagnosed Cushing’s. Very pleased with the progress. Her coat is filling in, drinking less water and she isn’t panting constantly. So glad to have discovered these products to make her life better. She has a lot more energy as well.

What are the symptoms of Cushing’s Disease?

Most commonly, Cushing’s disease in dogs is caused by a tumor (benign or malignant) in the pituitary gland or it can be caused due to over-exposure to steroids over a reasonably long period of time. Cushing’s disease mostly affects middle-aged dogs and the most common breeds affected are poodles, dachshunds, and beagles.

The most common signs of Cushing’s are:

  • Drinking excessive amounts of water and urinating excessively
  • Increased hunger
  • Hair loss
  • Darkening of the skin and appearance of blackheads on the skin
  • Pot bellied abdomen and obesity
  • Urinary bladder stones and or crystals

How does the NHV Cushing’s Disease Essential Kit help?

The treatment for Cushing’s is a lifelong one and mostly revolves around managing the hormone production and the related symptoms. Once a dog has been diagnosed with Cushing’s, based on the dog’s age and how far along with the disease already is, your NHV Pet expert will recommend a suitable supplement pack. One of the most recommended NHV Cushing’s support is the Cushing’s Disease Essential Kit, which contains a bottle of Supraglan and Milk Thistle.

Helps control adrenal hormones and also works as a support for pituitary gland dysfunction.

NHV Supraglan is a balancing formula that helps control adrenal hormones and also works as a support for pituitary gland dysfunction. Amongst other useful herbs, it contains Borage that has been known for its ability to support adrenal function, and helps stimulate normal endocrine system functions. It is our most highly recommended support for Cushing’s disease in pets.

NHV Milk Thistle is a pure Milk thistle extract that is glycerin-based and works to support the liver when a pet’s system is fighting diseases, infections, and side effects of strong pharmaceutical medicines. It supports the regeneration of the liver and also supports overworked kidneys.

Together the Milk Thistle and the Supraglan form our Cushing’s Disease Essential Kit that is long-term support for dogs with Cushing’s. This kit helps maintain healthy adrenal gland function, helps liver enzyme levels, and helps improve the dog’s ability to fight infections.

In certain cases, where the dog is also experiencing reduced energy and lack of nutrition, your NHV Pet experts will recommend the Cushing’s Disease Super Support and Nutritional Balance Kit. This one includes a bottle of NHV Multi Essentials, which works to fill nutritional voids in dogs and cats fighting health disorders.

Like Mitzie, we have been able to help many dogs with Cushing’s cope better with our natural supplements. One story which is closest to our hearts is our very own beagle, Lady. Bruce, the old Boston Terrier was also able to find some relief with NHV Cushing’s Supplements.

My dog Teddy who is a rescue from hurricane Katrina, is a mixed breed mutt about 45 pounds and going on 15 now. For years I was told he suffered from separation anxiety, but three months ago a new vet took one look and diagnosed him with Cushing’s. He is too old and frail to put through all the expensive tests and meds they recommend and I am treating him with pain meds. He toddles back and forth and his legs give out often. Sometimes he can’t get up on his own and he trips a lot. Would these supplements improve his quality of life remaining? He is so dear to me. He pants a lot and drinks a lot and sleeps a lot and is always hungry…losing hair like rainfall and is covered with growths. I’ve had a few removed over the years but nobody told me what they were. How would the supplements help him?

    1. NHV Natural Pet Products says:

We’re so sorry Teddy is going through this 🙁 Though from the symptoms it sounds like Teddy may be suffering from Cushing’s disease, a blood test would need to be done to absolutely confirm Cushing’s. The testing for Cushing’s is done with a very simple blood test. If you think that Teddy can handle that, we would highly recommend it. If that is not possible there are ways you can support him. We don’t generally recommend using Supraglan unless a pet has a confirmed case of Cushing’s, but in this case it may be worth a try. The Supraglan and Milk Thistle would help his symptoms like increased drinking and hunger, and we would recommend Old Timer and Turmeric to help his sore joints. To help with Teddy’s anxiety, we would recommend Lesstress.

Teddy’s dose of all supplements would be 1.5ml twice daily and they can be given in his food.

Send our love and well wishes to sweet Teddy. Don’t ever hesitate to ask any time you have any questions.
