multivitamin support
For any pet pawrent looking for a dairy-free icy treat for your pooch, you will love this easy homemade dog ice cream recipe that will keep your pup hydrated and cool on those hot summer nights.
This recipe has been formulated by a vet to help disguise NHV supplements for all those picky eaters out there.
A dairy-free treat to keep your pooch cool and hydrated in the summer.
Peanut butter is rich in protein and fats so, in small quantities, it can be a yummy treat for your dog. Just use the natural kind that is suspended in oil and does not contain added salt or sugars (eg. xylitol which is toxic for dogs). Coconut milk can offer some health benefits such as helping to fight infections and to stimulate healthy immune function, however, pay special attention to only use unsweetened coconut milk. Pumpkin puree offers a rich source of digestible fiber to help loosen stool and keep things moving and bananas contain additional fiber plus a rich array of nutrients including potassium, copper and vitamin C.
While natural peanut butter and pumpkin puree can be wonderful natural treats for your dog in moderation, keep in mind that in higher quantities, the oils and added fiber can cause your pooch to have looser than normal stools. Both have been known to help with constipation so if your pup just ate these foods and their poops are softer than usual, that’s why!
Ingredients for Peanut Butter Dog Ice Cream
• 1 banana (peeled)
• 1/3 cup of pumpkin puree
• 1/2 cup of natural peanut butter (no salt, no sugar)
• 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk
• NHV Supplement (NHV Lesstress is a great choice for anxious pups)
Steps
1. Mix peanut butter (natural peanut butter tends to separate)
2. Peel 1 banana
3. Add peanut butter, coconut milk, pumpkin puree and banana
4. Blend until smooth
5. Pour dog ice cream mixture into ice cube tray
6. Freeze overnight
7. Remove from ice cube tray, place into a pet-safe dish
8. Drizzle the regular dosage of your favorite NHV supplement on top
9. Serve and watch your furbaby enjoy this icy treat!
Although it is made with all-natural, whole ingredients, this recipe is meant to be used as an occasional snack and should not be substituted for regular meals. Moderation is key!
We’d love to hear how your puppers enjoyed the treat! Please let us know your pet’s reactions or how you made this recipe with your own spin on it. Tag #NHVpets in pictures or videos on social media of you and your furry friend making it together or chowing down!
