Chaya’s Day at the Dentist
Our office pup Chaya is only 2 years old, but she was already showing signs that something was not right in her little mouth. She had bad breath and her parents started to see some moderate tartar built up and tooth discoloration. It’s no wonder why Chaya’s coworkers were avoiding sitting beside her!
As is fairly common with smaller breed dogs, not all of Chaya’s adult teeth erupted from under the gumline. She has never been a big fan of chewing things either and getting her teeth brushed was always a challenge.
Before and During Dental Cleaning Procedure
Chaya went for a vet visit so they could check her little mouth. Because cleaning involves the use of anesthetics, she had to get some blood work done to make sure she was healthy and wouldn’t have any issues while getting her teeth cleaned. After her blood work came back all good, the procedure was scheduled for a couple of weeks later.
The dental cleaning process went really well and it only took about 30-40 minutes. One of Chaya’s baby teeth didn’t surface completely and it didn’t end up falling out. The vet recommended having it removed while she was under the anesthetic, so it wouldn’t cause any issues in the future.
Why is Anesthesia needed?
Dental x-rays cannot be performed without the use of anesthesia.
A thorough dental cleaning with an anesthetic is very important. There are many services offering anesthesia-free cleanings, but these cleanings are purely cosmetic. The ‘root’ of the problem cannot be addressed. It is very important that tartar be cleaned from beyond the gumline. As you can see in this example, the teeth look like they have some moderate tartar, but no major issues. Once an x-ray is taken, it becomes very obvious that the teeth are very diseased and damaged. Dental x-rays cannot be performed without the use of anesthesia.
Veterinarians also use equipment similar to that which human dentists use. This equipment can make all sorts of noises that can be very unnerving to pets. Attempting to thoroughly clean a pet’s teeth with this equipment without an anesthetic puts the pet at risk of injury.
After the Dental Cleaning Procedure
Chaya was very groggy and whining a bit for the rest of the night, she didn’t want to eat much either, as she was a bit nauseated from the anesthetics. The first day was a bit tough on her little body, so her parents had to give some extra TLC. So don’t worry if you’re pet seems out of sorts, but if they continue to show lethargy for more than 48 hours, contact your vet right away.
The following day though, Chaya perked up and even came to work with her mom. For the next couple of days, Chaya only ate soft food to make it easier for her to chew and digest it. As she had a tooth removed she couldn’t have any kibble or chewy toys for a couple of days, until the stitches dissolved.
Chaya’s teeth look nice and clean now and her breath has improved tremendously. Everypawdy wants to give Chaya hugs and kisses all the time.

Yucca contains two very beneficial compounds: sarsasapogenin and smilagenin. These two compounds work on the mucous membranes of the small intestine. These compounds help with the penetration and absorption of minerals and vitamins. Sarsasapogenin and Smilagenin are known as steroidal saponins (phytosterols), which act as precursors to corticosteroids produced naturally by the body.
Steroidal-saponins support the immune function of the body while stimulating and supporting the production of its own corticosteroids and corticosteroid–related hormones. Due to this action, studies conducted on yucca have shown that it may be beneficial and effective for discomfort and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis. Yucca may also be effective as an appetite booster in dogs and may also help reduce the production of urease, which contributes to the unpleasant odors of urine and feces in some dogs.

I took my 12 yr dog to a Specialist in Dental in Knoxville Tn. It was a major upset for me and a horrible outcome for my little guy.
After the dental I found they did not do the nessary bloodwork and did not run antibotics before, during or after. He developed a horrible infection that was treated by his regular Dr. with 2 rounds of antibiotics and 3 office visits. 300 plus dolars and not including the 1300.00 for the regular cleaning that included 3 teeth pulled.
The outcome was this ..a few weeks later he developed a spot on the eye not sure what it was but a form of ulcer. He went blind, lost his hearing. On month 8 he was making sounds of a snorting sound and his abdomen was swelled. I took him for ultra sound and upper endoscopy. I went to pick him up and they found adrenal cancer on adrenal glands .
I am still upset with this Specialist in Knoxville that to this day never called to find out how my dog is. Her assistant knows the whole story though. Its all about money! I want to know why this new form of denistry when a dog needs antibotics they refuse it.
Im very disappointed that this dentist came recommended and she has other offices out of state that does not care other than collecting her money. Today and 4 months later I am trying to keep my little guy comfortable as possible. Im using ES Clear, Milk Thistle, MEDICINAL Mushrooms along with a homemade diet.
As far as Im concerned this Denal Specialist needs a slap on the wrist and I trully feel had she ran bloodwork my baby wouldn’t have been though most of this..

My boy has the same issue.exceot right now hes fighting for his life. I adopted him at two years old off the streets. He hS forever changed my life. As you know ratties have those horrible allergies that required prednisone shot. Then about a year ago they warned me that it was bad for his heart. So they put him on heart medication for congestive heart failure. Now hes developed his honk again. Just out of the blue. Its back with a vengeance. I am searching for anything to help him survive this congestive heart failure and collapsed tracea. Any suggestions. I’ll keep their short I hope someone gets back with me I ran across your ad last night I watched a lot of YouTube videos last night and that said that [product name removed] would help. So again I’m gonna go back to my sweet boy paco and keep him comfortable. I made him some chicken, rice and herbs like cumin, oregano, added some olive oil coconut oil and some celery, all that I had in the house. I am disabled, awaiting a scary neck fusion bedridden out of fear for the last 4 years. This boy Paco is my heart. I had his teeth cleaned last year, they seemed to only get worse. Now this.
