heart support
Heart Disease and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
These heart murmurs can eventually lead to heart failure.
Cardiomyopathy, or heart disease, is far too common, and unfortunately, certain breeds are predisposed to heart conditions. One of these breeds is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. There are many different types of cardiomyopathy. One of the most common conditions of the heart is degenerative valve disease, also known as a heart murmur. A heart murmur occurs when one of the valves in the heart doesn’t close properly, which allows some of the blood to flow backward. This valve defect can be genetic, which is often the case in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, or it can be caused by plaque deposits on the valve, or a thickening of the valve. These heart murmurs can eventually lead to heart failure.
Supporting Dogs with Heart Disease
Heart disease can be treated, but unfortunately, there is no cure. It is possible for dogs to live long lives after diagnosis, depending on the stage of the heart disease. We recently heard from some pet parents who have been supporting their CKC Spaniel with NHV Hearty-Heart and the results have been fantastic!
Katie the Cavalier’s dad shared this message with us:
I would highly recommend NHV for all your pets’ supplements! Thank you for keeping our 14-year-old alive much longer than the veterinarian had expected. She was diagnosed with heart failure two years ago and she’s still going strong. He said most King Charles Cavaliers only make it a month or so after diagnosis. He said (in amazement) whatever you’re doing keep doing it! We will continue as long as possible with NHV!
We also learned that Katie likes to keep herself super clean, so mom and dad loosely tie her beautiful locks up with a scrunchy while she eats or enjoys a treat…. too cute!
Update April 2019:
Our hearts are broken as we let you know little Katie has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We know this beautiful girl is dearly loved and missed by her family. We thank Katie’s family for allowing us to support her and be a part of her special journey.
NHV Hearty-Heart helps to support the heart muscle itself as well as the entire circulatory system and pulmonary system (lungs) It helps your pet maintain good energy levels and eases restlessness. For breeds like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, who are prone to heart disease, Hearty-Heart can be used as lifelong prevention and support for the heart. It’s never too soon to start! A little prevention can go a long way to keeping your pet happy and healthy for many years.

Hawthorn acts as a cardio tonic, which helps stabilize the heart’s activity based on what a dog’s heart needs; either to be stimulated or reduced. Hawthorn has traditionally been used for heart failure, heart palpitations, heart weakness, and for the circulatory system. This herb works by dilating the vessels and the coronary arteries, which improves the metabolic process and the blood supply to the heart and the rest of the body. Hawthorn may help with dog heart conditions by regulating your dog’s heart rate, coronary flow, and blood pressure. It also has a soothing and sedative effect that helps reduce stress.
Balsam Poplar – Encourages circulation and supports blood flow. Balsam Poplar has historically been used in North America by indigenous peoples for coughs, respiratory issues, and as a food for horses. This herb has strong anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties.

Does the Heart Murmur Support Kit help with prevention?
These supplements are great for prevention, especially for breeds like King Charles Spaniels which are very prone to heart disease. It's never too early to support healthy heart function.
Once heart murmur symptoms in your cat have been seen, you should also consult with your vet. They may recommend their own heart murmur treatment for your cat, and it will be safe to give alongside NHV’s natural herbal remedies.
My new pet is a breed prone to heart murmurs. Can I use these supplements now, or should I wait?
These are gentle herbal formulas and as such, they do take time to work in the body. You should notice a difference in about 3-4 weeks. Since every animal is different it's a good idea to check in with us around week 2 so our pet experts can suggest any dosage changes for your pet.
What are common heart murmur symptoms in cats?
A heart murmur is simply the sound the heart makes when the valves do not close properly for some reason. It is important to find the underlying cause of a heart murmur. Some common symptoms of heart disease are lethargy, panting, and coughing.
Is a heart murmur present from birth or is it something my pet can develop?
Heart murmurs can either be present from birth or can develop later in life. Generally, heart murmurs symptoms in cats and dogs that are very young may resolve as they grow (but not always).
