This sweet potato mash for pets makes an easy and healthy treat for both cats and dogs. Sweet potatoes are really high in both antioxidants and fiber. They also are a great source of vitamins and minerals such as iron and vitamin C. We recommend either boiling or roasting (without any oil or seasoning) the sweet potatoes in the oven to cook them.

Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals. Salmon makes this recipe especially good for cats because its fishy smell and yummy flavor will hide the flavor of supplements for picky eaters. Salmon can be really fatty and can cause stomach upset if the pet is not used to it. To prevent this, we recommend boiling or poaching the salmon to remove excess fat. Don’t worry, even with the excess fat gone the salmon will still contain lots of omega-3 fatty acids.

Bone broth is also a good source of protein and can help your pet stay hydrated. Unless you are buying a broth that is specifically made for pets, it is important to make sure it does not contain garlic or onion. It is also best to avoid any broth that contains additional seasonings, spices, or preservatives.

DIY Sweet Potato Mash Recipe for Pets

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup of cooked, boneless salmon

• 2 cups of cooked sweet potato, cubed

• 1 cup of fish broth or chicken bone broth

• Your favorite NHV supplement (NHV Yucca is a great choice)

Steps

1. Add salmon, sweet potato, and broth to a blender. Blend until smooth.

2. Pour into an ice cube tray.
Tip: The mixture will be thick and pour out in blobs. Use a spatula to even out the mixture in the tray and remove excess.

3. Place into the freezer for storage. You can also serve some to your pet while it is fresh.
Tip: Place the ice cube tray inside a freezer bag with as much of the air removed as possible to prevent freezer burn and to keep the mash in the freezer for longer.

4. When ready to serve, pop cube(s) into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds or until soft and warm.

5. Drizzle a regular dosage of your favorite NHV supplement on top.

6. Serve and watch your furkiddo enjoy!
