Happy tails are more special when there’s a recovery story behind them. Carol shared her cat’s story with us recently, and it’s not an ordinary one. When Sage, her precious 11- year old cat, was diagnosed with CLL/SLL, as pet parents we can all imagine Carol’s horror. Her vets suggested chemo and steroids, which is often the protocol for cats and dogs with cancer. But this cat’s mom wanted to take the natural route. She decided to keep her cat healthy and comfortable for as long as can be, naturally.

Here’s what Sage’s mom had to say:

Sage is 11 years old and was diagnosed with CLL/SLL in April. I consulted with 2 vets who both wanted her on chemo and steroids for the rest of her life. I wanted a different option. So I created a health protocol including NHV products. We have to do blood work every 6 weeks so I will keep you posted. She is doing very well so far.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) are both forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. They are similar diseases, but CLL spreads cancer in the blood and bone marrow, while SLL spreads cancer mostly in the lymph nodes.

Update – July, 2017

Sage had more blood work this week. Her lymphocyte count, while still high, dropped by another 1500. Her platelet count which was very low at the time of her diagnosis is now normal. I am grateful to NHV for their assistance and grateful to Sage who is very cooperative in taking her “super power drops” as we fondly refer to all of her herbal remedies.

We wish Carol all the best and are waiting to hear more good news in the future. With progressive diseases like cancer, there is never a standard path. Adjustments have to be made along the way and we always suggest pet parents keep us updated and stay consistent. We are glad Sage’s mom is doing just that.

Update – August 31, 2018

I just wanted to update you on my cat, Sage who you wrote about last year. 

In March of 2017 Sage was diagnosed with CLL/SLL. I immediately switched all my cats to a raw diet and started a supplement regime including NHV products. Sage was doing very well and her lymphocyte count, while still high, remained steady. In January of this year, the pathologist found some abnormal cells in Sage’s blood and sent us back to the oncologist who diagnosed her with a rare and more aggressive cancer, Large Granular Lymphoma. Again, we declined any conventional treatment. I was disheartened to learn that most cats do not survive more than 90 days after this diagnosis. Still Sage was not showing any signs of weight loss or discomfort so I continued with her protocol adding I-P6 to her long list of supplements. 

Today Sage’s lymphocyte count is now 7000, down from 14,000 last April. She is still her chubby, happy self. I believe consistency is the key to our success and Sage’s well-being. It requires a lot of effort on both my part and Sage’s part. She gets her blends twice daily which include Felimm, BK Detox, Natures Immunos, and Tripsy. I recently added {_} to her program because are fortunate to live in a state where it is legal and have medical dispensaries that carry pet-specific products. I also add about 6 supplements to her food. There are days when one or both of us tire of this routine and occasionally I will give her a day off when she feels most uncooperative. I always feel blessed to have one more day with her. We are so grateful to the team at NHV.

Update – May, 2019

We were very saddened to get a message from Carol saying that Sage had crossed the rainbow bridge.

It is with profound sadness that I share the news that Sage’s cancer finally took her from me two weeks ago. My vet said that she has rarely seen a cat live so well and so long after being diagnosed with such aggressive cancer. She was my sidekick and I am heartbroken but she had a wonderful life. I don’t think she felt much pain or discomfort at all until the last couple of weeks. I know the NHV products helped her.

While we were sad to hear the news, we were also thankful to have helped Sage feel more comfortable and to have given Carol and Sage more quality time together. We are sending all our love to Sage’s family during this difficult time 💖
