Supporting Cat Anemia Treatment Naturally: Juice’s Victory

Inspiring Pet Tails 3 min read
Orange cat in hospital after severe cat anemia health scare.

Juice’s journey is an inspiring example on how natural supplements added to your cat anemia treatment can help offer extra support. When we first met our little ginger friend, he was in the middle of a health scare. An anemic cat can quickly become very ill if untreated. Thankfully Juice’s got an amazing family who was there with him every step of the way!

How are Anemic Cats Treated?

Severe cases of anemia might require a blood transfusion. That’s because anemia in cats refers to a reduced number of circulating red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (HB), or both – usually in result of another condition. RBCs are produced in the bone marrow and naturally die off or become damaged as they age. HBs have the important role of delivering oxygen to cells and tissues, so some cats with anemia may experience symptoms related to a lack of oxygen.

Supplements with Traditional Cat Anemia Treatment

Juice’s natural wellness journey started with NHV OcuLove, our main supplement for overall eye health, for proactive support! As soon as we heard about him, we knew this orange tabby angel had amazing furparents looking after him. And so our story of mutual love and respect began.

Juice and I love all these products! Also @nhvnaturalpet is an amazing company. They’re staff is so helpful in finding the right products for your pet, really cant recommend them enough.

Unfortunately, around that same time, Juice was hospitalized due to severe anemia, which resulted in a blood transfusion. His vet suspected he might have an autoimmune disorder, as well. Like all that wasn’t enough, he had formed resistance to multiple antibiotics, and his liver was starting to feel the effects of the long-term use of pharmaceuticals of his cat anemia treatment.

Since then, our little friend has been on the mend and has been taking NHV Milk Thistle to help him get back on track!

Juice underwent cat anemia treatment. Now he's thriving and getting better every day!

Milk Thistle is a powerful yet gentle herb extract that can help to promote liver and kidney health. This vet-formulated supplement is also known for encouraging liver regeneration, which is crucial for pets who have just undergone traditional treatments.

After a little while, Juice’s furmily started noticing some improvement and shared with us these awesome news:

Juice seems to be doing better. Last Monday his blood work showed he was no longer anemic but still wasn’t back to normal. We are repeating his blood work on Wednesday to see if there’s any more improvement🥰

Symptoms of Anemia in Cats

Are you worried your little one might be dealing with something similar to what Juice had? These are the common signs that your cat may be dealing with anemia:

  • Pale gums
  • Lethargy
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Increased heart rate
  • Weakness
  • Decreased appetite

If you notice your little one has any of these signs, please visit your local veterinarian immediately.

How is Pet Anemia Tested?

If a PCV test reveals a kitty’s RBCs are below 25%, they may be anemic.

The only way to confirm that your kitty is anemic is by having several tests done in the vet’s clinic. The most common type of test being a packed-cell volume hematocrit or PCV test. A normal cat will have about 25-45% of blood RBC.

Cats that are anemic should be tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) to rule out these severe root causes.

Natural Support for Cat Anemia Treatment

Back to Juice’s story, we were recently surprised with an even better update, not only about his anemia but his liver health as well.

He’s doing really well and there’s been a huge improvement with his anemia. He’s no longer anemic 🥰 His liver enzyme levels have gone back to normal since being on milk thistle! His vet loves all the supplements we’ve put him on. I appreciate all your guys help and support 🧡

When his furmama reached out to us, Juice’s anemia was already being addressed with vet-prescribed medication. But natural supplements can also go a long way in helping address the root cause and symptoms of anemia.

Seeing as each furkiddo have their unique needs, and the underlying condition might differ, so can our recommendations. However, our main suggestions for anemia in cats are NHV Yucca, NHV Multi Essentials, and NHV Natures Immuno.

Hello, I’m glad to have found your page. I am in great need of help. I live in France. We’ve gone to 1 vet who did nothing about my cat. The 2nd and 3rd vet came up with the same blood test and x-ray results – Anaemia and some mind of ball-like inflammation in the centre of her stomach. Both couldn’t tell more than this. The 2nd vet couldn’t do anything.else. The 3rd vet could operate on her, only to find out what’s inside after opening, facing great risks, the vet said. Because my cat’s anaemic, she said, she could be weak to support surgery. To me, don’t we want to treat the anaemia first to give her strength, at least? I can’t find any useful vets. Can I give my cat these supplements to work on her anaemia, and perhaps even general well-being?
