“She is defying the odds;” Sylvie’s Dog Cancer Story

Meet Sylvie! She’s a sweet goofy girl who loves her family lots and lots, so when cancer appeared, it was devastating for her fur family. While Sylvie’s journey with dog cancer has been nothing short of a rollercoaster, the ending will warm your heart!

A Scary Diagnosis for Any Dog: Cancer

No pet parent wants to think of the day, but many will have to make difficult decisions for our pets’ health and wellness. For some like Sylvie’s parents, this will sadly include cancer care.

[It was initially] a mystery as to whether it truly was cancer… The vet was 99% certain by observation, the tumor above and ulceration beneath her tongue were massive, and could [not] be operated on. So, we simply chose to give her the best life during her remaining time.

Later, a biopsy confirmed that Sylvie had squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), a type of cancer in pets that affects the skin, mouth, tonsils, and nose. It’s caused by the uncontrolled growth of squamous cells, which are found in the outermost layer of skin.

Because it affects the mouth and nose, it can make day-to-day life difficult for pups. However, determined to help this cuddly pooch as best they could, Sylvie’s family began researching ways that they could help her at home alongside her vet’s recommendations.
