Support For a Dog Skin Allergy: Yukon the Silver Lab

Inspiring Pet Tails 2 min watch
Dealing with a dog skin allergy is not easy for anyone. Yukon has both seasonal allergies and environmental allergies and when his furparent Linda wanted a natural remedy for his symptoms, she reached out to us.

Some pets are born with allergies and some develop them as they age. Whether it’s new or something your pet is used to, a cat or dog skin allergy doesn’t have to be a drag with the right approach to wellness!

We first met our furriend Yukon when his furparent Linda reached out to us for help with his allergies. Yukon has lived with dog seasonal allergies since he was a puppy. On top of that, he was also showing dog food allergy symptoms, and an allergy test for dogs determined he had a chicken allergy.

We were determined to help this handsome pup get back on track for enjoying life with his family!

Common Cat and Dog Skin Allergy Causes

Allergies in dogs and cats can happen for a variety of different reasons. For example, a pet can get environmental allergies from things like pollen, grass, mold, dust, and even household items like cleaning products. A pet could also have a food allergy, like an allergy to chicken, beef, dairy, fish, or eggs.

Allergy Symptoms in Dogs and Cats Can Include:

  • Itchiness
  • Excessive licking
  • Swelling
  • Hives
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Watery eyes
  • Coughing

Cat and Dog Allergy Testing

Diagnosing a pet with food allergies is not always easy. It can take a lot of trial and error as well as some back and forth. If you can, we suggest working with a veterinarian as they can help you determine what the necessary steps are in figuring out what’s bothering your pet.

Diagnosing a pet with food allergies is not always easy. It can take a lot of trial and error as well as some back and forth.

Food Trials

One of the most common ways to determine an allergy in dogs and cats is through a food trial. A ‘novel protein’ (meaning just one type of protein that your pet hasn’t had before) will be given to a pet for around 8 weeks with nothing else being given to them, including treats. If a pet is allergic, a flare-up will occur. A hypoallergenic diet can also be created to ensure a pet can continue enjoying meal time without adverse effects. While it can be stressful for both the pet and the pet parent, it’s important to continue cat and dog allergy testing to determine what the allergy could be.

Yukon’s Story

Yukon has struggled with skin issues since he was a puppy. He has both seasonal allergies and food allergies, which tend to get worse in the spring and summer months. Yukon would get itchy under his legs and belly. He would also get goopy eyes, extremely dry skin, and smelly ears.

Linda was recommended to us by a friend of hers and we couldn’t be more thankful to have met this amazing furmily!

Natural Cat and Dog Allergy Supplement

To support Yukon and his symptoms, he started taking Stimmune. Herbs found in Stimmune like astragalus, echinacea purpurea, Oregon grape, Asian ginseng, and myrrh have many benefits for allergies. They can help support the immune system, help reduce inflammation, aid in fighting infection, support the body in controlling stress, and can help relieve irritated skin.

For pets with environmental allergies, it may also be helpful to add NHV Alge-Ex to their regimen. It is formulated to help with environmental symptoms like watery eyes and sneezing.

Yukon’s Progress

Not long after trying out Stimmune, Linda had an amazing update to share with us!

“I started him on Stimmune. After about 2 weeks there was a noticeable difference in his skin and his eyes were no longer goopy. We are on our 3rd bottle now. This product works!”
