There is a strong connection between the digestive and mental health of pets. The gut, often referred to as the “second brain,” houses a complex ecosystem of microorganisms that influence various bodily functions, including those related to mood and behavior.
A healthy gut contributes to the happiness of our furry friends.
Probiotics are live microorganisms, primarily bacteria and yeast, that confer health benefits to our fur babies when consumed in adequate amounts. In the context of pet health, probiotics play a crucial role in maintaining a balanced and thriving gut microbiome.
The link between gut health and stress is well-established in science. Probiotics contribute to the balance of good bacteria in the gut, which, in turn, can positively impact the your little one’s mental well-being. By promoting a healthy gut microbiome, probiotics may help regulate stress responses and improve overall emotional resilience.
There are many cases that adding a probiotic can be beneficial, for instance:
NHV Probiotic + Prebiotic is formulated with a blend of beneficial bacteria and prebiotic fibers. Key aspects include:
Together, these elements contribute to a balanced and resilient gut, promoting a sense of calm and well-being in pets dealing with anxiety.
Prioritizing our little ones’ mental well-being is as crucial as their physical health. By understanding the connection between gut and emotional health, and incorporating herbal supplements like NHV Probiotic + Prebiotic, we pave the way for happier, stress-free moments with our cherished companions!

Natural Constipation Support for Dogs
Besides straining and painful or difficult defecation, if you realize your pup is showing signs like hard, dry small stools, lethargy, loss of appetite, hunched posture or vomiting for more than two days, you should consider taking them to see your trusted vet to run some tests to figure out the underlying cause. Your vet will be able to check the consistency of the stools through a physical examination and get an idea of how advanced the constipation is. Further exams like lab tests, endoscopy, and image exams like X-rays and ultrasounds might be required to rule out other conditions like tumors in the GI tract, for instance. Musculoskeletal disorders, neurological conditions, and diseases in the urinary tract also need to be ruled out since they can be the primary causes of constipation.
Constipation is a very serious symptom. It is important to keep in mind that chronic constipation can lead to more complicated issues like obstipation and megacolon. Obstipation happens when fecal matter becomes chronically compacted, and your furkiddo can't poop at all. Megacolon happens when the colon loses its normal motility and ability to eliminate waste normally. Obstipation and megacolon are complex health issues and may require manual or surgical removal by your trusted vet. The treatment for constipation will depend on the underlying cause, its severity and its duration.
For acute constipation or constipation that tends to recur, we'd suggest adding a natural dog constipation support remedy like NHV Maris to your pup’s daily meals. Maris’ gentle formulation means that you can safely increase the dosage on days that your pet needs the extra support. NHV Maris for dog constipation can safely be used short-term as well as long-term as natural health support. Maris promotes soft stools and may help improve colon health in puppies (vaccinated and weaned), as well as adult dogs.
How NHV’s Natural Dog Constipation Remedy Eases Constipation
Constipation can cause a lot of discomfort for your little one. Ingredients like Cascara Sagrada and Ginger can improve intestinal muscle tone, reduce muscle cramping during bowel movements and relieve nausea. The laxative properties in Maris create softer stool, which also makes bowel movements easier and reduces straining. Herbs like Dandelion promote healthy movement through the colon by stimulating bile flow while Marshmallow soothes and lubricates irritated digestive tissues.

Is your furkiddo vomiting, having watery poops or is too tired to play? They may be suffering from a common gastrointestinal issue in dogs known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD in dogs). NHV’s TumFlora is a unique vet formulation that contains 100% natural ingredients known to help improve intestinal flora, and helps reduce inflammation of the gut.
Like humans, Inflammatory or Irritable Bowel Disease, also known as IBD, is a common gastrointestinal problem in dogs. When your furbaby has IBD, inflammatory cells within their body begin to invade the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The stomach, small intestine, and large intestine are all part of the GI tract. Once inflammatory cells start to take over the GI tract, a thickening of the intestinal wall can occur, upsetting daily functions like absorption and the movement of food (peristalsis). There is no clear cause for IBD in dogs, but studies show that genetic and external factors can predispose your pet to have IBD. Some additional contributing factors may be chronic irritation of the intestines caused by constant vomiting and diarrhea, food allergies, parasites, and autoimmune disorders.
How TumFlora Supports GI Tract Health
TumFlora is a natural herbal vet formulation designed to help improve intestinal flora. In addition to helping improve intestinal flora, and helping with inflammation of the digestive tract, TumFlora contains herbs that are highly nutritious like slippery elm to further help your furbaby heal. Slippery elm is high in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, B complex, C, K, calcium, magnesium and sodium. The gentle defense against microorganisms and anti-fungal properties of herbs like oregon grape aid the body to fight off infections. Finally, herbs like fennel and chamomile help to relieve stomach cramps and indigestion and help with overall discomfort.
This soothing liquid formulation is easy to administer and helps maintain a healthy gut. In addition to helping IBD in dogs, TumFlora is also useful for pets suffering from food allergies, gastrointestinal ulcers and bacterial, gut infections. TumFlora is also a great addition to your pet’s daily regimen as a proactive approach for a healthy gut.
Symptoms of IBD in dogs
Dogs will occasionally vomit or have diarrhea because something doesn’t sit right with their tummies, or maybe they ate too much or too little that day. But if your furkiddo begins to vomit and their poops are runny on a regular basis then it could be IBD. Keep your eye out for these additional symptoms:
Typically your vet will do a full-body exam, check your dog’s history, conduct a blood panel, take a stool sample, and possibly opt for x-rays and/or an ultrasound. IBD in dogs can be tough to diagnose because your vet will have to check for a variety of conditions as well as vital organ functions before they can confirm diagnosis. Other health conditions that have similar symptoms to IBD are GI parasites, kidney or liver disease, pancreatitis, cancer, or foreign substances and objects in the intestines. To confirm IBD, your vet may eventually conduct a biopsy on your pup's stomach and/or intestinal tract.
Additional Holistic Support for Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Dogs
A combination of vet-prescribed medication and nutritional therapy is often recommended to alleviate symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease. If your pet is prone to inflammatory bowel disease in dogs, changing your dog’s diet to a more gut-friendly one is recommended.
