Let’s be real, our pets are basically like our children. Hence, the cute nicknames, “furbabies” and “furkiddos”. FCoV and Symptoms
FCoV is a very common and highly contagious virus that affects cats. Though they are both coronaviruses, FCoV is not the same as COVID-19 and is not transmissible to people.
Kitties with feline coronavirus can be asymptomatic but can also cause mild issues like diarrhea. FCoV is also transmissible between cats via fecal-oral transmission.
FCoV is a very common and highly contagious virus that affects cats and is not transmissible to people.

My cat has Coronavirus. Does that mean my cat can give me Coronavirus?

The Feline Coronavirus is not transmissible to people, and so far experts have not expressed concerns about transmission to or from cats with the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. It is important, however, to understand this disease, so that you can help protect your cat. Feline Coronavirus (FCoV) is a common viral, but highly contagious intestinal infection in cats. It can be asymptomatic, but may cause a few problems, like diarrhea in most infected cats. In some cats, however, the intestinal form of FCoV mutates and turns into Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a disease that is generally fatal.
There was a dog in Hong Kong with Coronavirus. Can I get Coronavirus from my dog?
In March 2020, there was news about the first dog that test “weak positive” for coronavirus (COVID-19 virus) in Hong Kong. The implications of a “weak positive” test are unclear, and it’s unknown if the presence of the virus is due to infection, environmental contamination, cross-reactivity or even potential issues with the test itself. My cat has Coronavirus. Does that mean my cat can give me Coronavirus?

In some cats, however, the intestinal form of FCoV mutates and turns into Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a disease that is generally fatal.
There was a dog in Hong Kong with Coronavirus. Can I get Coronavirus from my dog?
In March 2020, there was news about the first dog that test “weak positive” for coronavirus (COVID-19 virus) in Hong Kong. The implications of a “weak positive” test are unclear, and it’s unknown if the presence of the virus is due to infection, environmental contamination, cross-reactivity or even potential issues with the test itself. Hong Kong officials said the dog showed no clinical signs of illness, has been quarantined and is being cared for, and will continue to be monitored to determine its status. Experts have not expressed concern about transmission to or from animals. Multiple international and domestic health organization have indicated that pets and other domestic animals are not considered at risk for contracting or spreading COVID-19.
