Speedy is a chihuahua who lives in Bahrain. No one really knows his true age, since his previous owner sadly abandoned him one day. While that must have been a traumatic time for Speedy, thank goodness that he was found by his new mama, Bridget. Bridget took Speedy in and gave him a warm and loving home – one he would desperately need once he began to face new health challenges.
New Home, Old Problems
It must have been fate that Speedy was found by Bridget. In his new home, Speedy is a very very happy boy! However, without warning, it was discovered that Speedy had unexplained seizures. Without a medical history, it was a big scare.
After a trip to the vet, it was discovered that Speedy’s heart would skip a beat, also known as a heart palpitation. Heart palpitations are one of many possible heart conditions pets can face. It can be a symptom of an arrhythmia, or abnormal heart rhythm.
There are many several causes of heart palpitations in pets. These palpitations can be caused by various factors, including heart disease, arrhythmias, anxiety, or stress and even trauma. Other potential causes include electrolyte imbalances, hyperthyroidism, infections, or even trauma. Medications or toxins can also affect heart rhythms. If you notice symptoms of palpitations, it’s important to tell your veterinarian, who may suggest certain treaments or heart-supportive supplements.
How Natural Dog Heart Health Supplements Helped

Shortly after he started having seizures and immediately we rushed him to the vet. Little boy is a heart patient in terms of his heart skips beats and this causes the seizures.
Your [supplement] was highly recommended by his vet and thank God we had a friend who was stateside those days and brought it back for us. Ever since speedy takes .75ml per day before bedtime and his seizures stopped completely!
After his veterinarian suggested NHV to Speedy, they tried it in hopes that his condition would improve – and it did! Speedy sure felt a lot better when he wasn’t dealing with pesky seizures.
Hearty-Heart is a unique blend of herbs specifically formulated to offer complete support to an over-worked heart. It contains herbs like hawthorn, valerian, lobelia, and balsam poplar, which may naturally support heart function and promoting circulation.
Wellness as an Ongoing Journey
Speedy continues to thrive in his new home thanks to the love and extra care Bridget shows him. And as new challenges arise, Bridget always works hard to help Speedy feel better.

Last picture you see is Speedy with an eye infection that was next to impossible to heal. One single message to the vets at NHV that immediately stepped in and recommended their Omega 3 supplement and the eye infection is gone without any further [vet-prescribed medications]. I cannot recommend NHV highly enough!
While Speedy had a rough start of it being abandoned, things worked out for Speedy in the end. He got adopted by his new furmily, and in turn, they were able to help him with his health. At NHV, we are big fans of Speedy and are super proud to have played a role too!

What is Cardiovascular (Heart) Disease in Dogs and Cats?
Cardiovascular (cardiac) disease is an umbrella term for conditions in your furkid’s circulatory system (blood vessels and especially the heart). Because of this, they are also commonly known as heart diseases.
Over 10% of furkiddos have some kind of cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately, the diseases progress over time if not treated in the early stages. This may eventually lead to heart failure and may even be fatal. That’s why seeking help from veterinary cardiologists is important. You should also visit a vet as soon as you notice clinical signs of heart disease in your beloved furkid.
Symptoms of Cardiovascular (Heart) Disease in Dogs and Cats
There are many types of cardiovascular disease in dogs and cats, and they all show different, particular symptoms. The symptoms may also vary in various breeds and species.
But here are some general signs you should watch out for:
- Difficulty breathing
- Coughing persistently
- Depression
- Abnormal weight changes
- Fatigue and restlessness
- Swollen abdomen
- Loss of appetite
- Collapsing or fainting
Discovering, diagnosing, and treating heart disease sooner can help minimize the damage it causes to your cat or dog’s heart. So, we would like to reiterate the importance of vet consultation and full body examination upon seeing these symptoms.
Common Cardiovascular (Heart) Disease in Dogs and Cats
Let’s learn some common types of heart disease or cardiovascular disease in dogs and cats:
- Valvular disease - when heart valves don’t open or close normally, causing an enlarged heart
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) - when the heart muscle thickens
- Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) - when the muscle in the heart weakens
- Arrhythmias - when the heart beats irregularly
- Congenital heart disease - when furkiddos’ heart anomalies are present at birth
- Heartworm disease - when a parasite infests your little one and attacks their arteries, lungs, and heart
- Pericardial disease - when too much fluid builds up and hinders the proper pumping of blood
Sadly, most heart disease in cats and dogs are incurable. But with treatment and natural support, you can help your little one live a longer and happier life!
How NHV Remedies Support Cardiovascular Disease in Dogs and Cats
Our Cardiovascular Super Support Health Kit can support your little one while taking vet-prescribed medication.
Hearty-Heart, as the name suggests, is our primary support for cardiovascular or heart disease in cats and dogs. The extract supports furkiddos’ cardiovascular system, promotes heart health, and helps with symptoms of cardiovascular disease. The herbs in this formula are well known to help with various heart related symptoms. For example, the herb Pulsatilla helps relieve the constant coughing, restlessness, and respiratory issues that furkids with cardiac disease may experience.
Various other herbs in the supplement, like motherwort, help strengthen your little one’s heart and circulatory system. Hawthorn, in particular, is a well-known heart and vascular tonic. It is often recommended for furriends with heart disease. This herb also may strengthen cardiovascular structures and functions. All the herbs work synergistically to create a balanced formula that is safe to use long-term to support the cardiovascular system.
Another supplement added to the kit is Turmeric. Turmeric is also beneficial for cardiovascular health. The main compound in Turmeric is called curcumin. In addition to supporting the cardiovascular system, curcumin is high in antioxidant properties and may be helpful in scavenging free radicals as well as helping to reduce inflammation.
And what does inflammation have to do with cardiac health?
Inflammation is one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disorders because it may cause blood clots. Therefore, if we reduce inflammation in our furriends, it may protect them from having cardiovascular disease too. That’s why Turmeric can serve as a proactive support for heart disease in dogs and cats.
